MLC chapel dedication
Two worship services are planned April 10–11 to dedicate the Chapel of the Christ at Martin Luther College (MLC), New Ulm, Minn. The new chapel, a 20,000 square-foot building that seats about 1,000 people, was completed in March.
"It is a visible reminder not only that Christ is the center of our campus, of our studies, and of our students' preparation, but it is also a reminder of Christ's goodness to us," says Rev. Mark Zarling, president of Martin Luther College. Zarling says he is looking forward to the dedication weekend. "It will give our campus family an opportunity to try, in some small way, to say thank you to God's people through whom the Lord has given us this gift."
The chapel and organ were funded entirely from individual gifts and gifts given as part of the synod's 150th anniversary thank offering in 2000. Construction of the Chapel of the Christ began in May 2008, and the first worship service in the chapel was held Mar. 18, 2010. "It was really a great day," says Zarling. "Seeing hundreds of Christians all united by the Spirit in the common faith, receiving the Holy Supper together—it was a little foretaste of the reality of the body of Christ here on earth."
The worship services are just one part of the dedication weekend. Other activities include a children's choir mini concert, chapel presentations, campus tours, and an art exhibit. Visit the MLC Web site to view the weekend's schedule and to reserve your spot at one of the dedication services. For those who can't attend, the dedication services will be streamed live.
