South Central
Nineteen youth from Immanuel, Fort Worth, Tex., came to Abiding Savior, Weslaco, Tex., to help with vacation Bible school. Joel Sauer, pastor at Abiding Savior, says, "The experience exposed the youth to reaching out in a cross-cultural area, as well as brought our congregation—which is far, far south—the sense of closeness with other Wisconsin Synod congregations."
South Atlantic
Abiding Grace, Covington, Ga., held a summer soccer camp from July 13–17. Besides learning valuable soccer skills with the help of Coach Ryan Herman from Wisconsin Lutheran College, children also learned about their Savior. Every day, students listened to Bible stories reflecting on how Jesus saved them from sin and death. Several new families were reached through the camp.
Arlene Steih, a member of Bay Pines, Seminole, Fla., accompanied church services for more than 80 years. The 101-year-old continues to begin each day by playing organ.
On May 29, Trinity, Castries, St. Lucia, hosted a worship service for the blind community. The Blind Welfare Association asked Trinity Lutheran Church to host a worship service as part of its Blind Welfare Awareness Month. The theme of the service was "Seeing value through the eyes of God" based on John 9:1-9. In attendance was the Governor General of St. Lucia, Dame Pearlette Louisy.
From May 31–June 2, Lamb of God, Madison, Ala., held its first tennis clinic. The theme was "Love All," and the clinic was attended by 29 children ages 8-14, most of whom had never held a tennis racquet. With two nets and painted boundary lines on the church's parking lot, each session began with a brief law/gospel object lesson.
Minnesota
Kevin Draper, pastor and acting principal at St. John, Sleepy Eye, Minn., spent the night on the school roof May 16 to reward students for reading 30,000 minutes during the last ten weeks of school.
Nebraska
More than five hundred kids came to a Kids Fest booth sponsored by Christ the Rock, Farmington, N.M., June 4. Christ the Rock was advertising its Path To Victory basketball camp and handed out a small basketball with the church logo, a registration form for the camp, and a Kids Club flyer for its Bible school. Ninety kids then attended the Path To Victory basketball camp June 14–16; 95 percent weren't members.
