Let your light shine
Let your light shine
In the spirit of Matthew 5:16, we're sharing examples of people who live their faith.
Volunteering in and serving his church—and his synod—has been a way of life for Norman Frey, a member at Zion, Mobridge, S.D. "I don't think I've missed a district convention in the last 60 years," this 83-year-old farmer says.
And he also hasn't let technology stand in his way; instead, he has embraced it. For more than 25 years, he also has been teaching computer classes to grades 5-8 at Zion. "I enjoy working with computers, and I enjoy working with children that age," he says.
Frey says his sons got him interested in computers. He took a class years ago and has taught himself since then. Currently he teaches one hour a week at Zion, honing students' skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and Internet searching. He even teaches the students long distance during the winter when he and his wife live in Arizona.
Frey says that this might be his last year of serving as a volunteer teacher. But he is happy that he was able to help through the years. "This is just one little way I can do the Lord's work," he says.
